Brooks-Seymour Awards

Professor Austin Brooks
at the Career Dinner for Delt Actives 2021
While winning the Monon Bell is a big deal, the biennial Brooks-Seymour Award (BSA) has become the most important recognition for 603WW.  Named for beloved Delt Advisor, Austin Brooks (passed away 2025) and equally beloved Wabash President Thaddeus Seymour (passed away 2019), this auspicious award recognizes those who have provided service to the Wabash Delt Brotherhood above and beyond the typical or routine.

The Awards are presented in this blog with the most recent recipients first.

No one will forget that Chuck Candiano was the first, and possibly most deserving, of the BSA earners.  Chuck was there for the young Delt Actives and Pledges during the terrible death of a pledge in fall of 2008.  Sadly, the untimely death was the beginning of many extremely difficult situations for those living at 603 West Wabash in 2008-09.  Chuck provided counseling, legal services and more, all pro-bono, for these young men and their families.  This is in addition to his consistent decades of service to Wabash Delts since his arrival on the Wabash campus in 1974.

In 2023, three dedicated Delts were recognized by awarding them each a Distinguished Service Award.  Those recipients were Bill Hill, Randy Allen and Dab Koeppel.  There awards are listed below the BSA awards, below.  In reverse chronological order the BSA recipients:

Ralph Dixon '79
accepting his 2025 award.

Rob Matthews '76, 2023 recipient,
is congratulated by Mike Shaver '73 "Gumby"

Mike Shaver '73 was awarded the BSA in 2021.
Dick Sword '76, also a 2021 recipient is behind
him as "Gumby" is awestruck by his award.
Sadly, we do not have the actual wording of Mike's
award, but we are working to get a copy
posted here.
